Parking lot living quarters of A/4-101 at KFA; CW2 Koch in foreground. Each crew of 3 was assigned their own parking space. It was hotter than hell for most of the time that we lived here |

1LT Mark Margheim helps 1LT Tony Michelini don his watch after Michelini broke his wrist. That was real pain on my face. Take a look at my right wrist. Our cruel flight surgeon let me go for a night before sending me to a field hospital for x-rays and a cast. When I reported for sick call the morning after my accident, the medic said something like “Yeah, Doc said you’d be back. He said last night he knew it was broken.”

Arm cast on 1LT Tony Michelini with artwork by CW2 Wesley Gale. I still have that cast with the artwork on it in my possession along with another great creation of his that decorated the back of my Saudi lounge chair |

CW2 Art Peterson and CW3 John Hazelwood celebrate Halloween at KFA. On second thought, they seemed to be dressed like that a lot of the timeJ

One of our pet fighting scorpions sitting on a sheet of plastic. Some of the guys collected pets in the desert, especially scorpions. We would then place two of them on a sheet of plastic, hold the edges of the plastic up to keep the scorpions in the center, and let them fight to the death. It’s a little chilling to recall it now but it seemed like fair sport at the time. |
