T-Birds and Warriors working out of Ca Mau. The operation area was in the U Minh Forest, 90 miles south of Soc Trang. The XO Warrior aircraft went down in the forest in about 100 feet tress. The aircraft landed up right in the middle of a VC Camp. I don’t remember the XO’s name but the CE was a guy named Price. There was one Vietnamese KIA. With the T-Birds flying cover, Col Kennedy ask me if I would go in and get the crew out of there. We had about 300’ to walk in from the landing area to get them out. |

We made it within about 10’ of the downed Warrior aircraft when CE Price called out my name, I looked up just as he took the picture above. I was very scared, but I felt very good to hear that all of our people were alive and well. We all made it out before dark and the thing that I remember most of all is that when one of our people went down, T-Bird or Warrior, it was a maximum effort right away to get them out. I saw this happen a few times while I was there and it made me feel good to know that no matter what the operation you were going to get help right away. Mike Proff |
