AC Bob Morris looking up at over flying aircraft while holding a survival radio. The fellow whose face is at the bottom of the picture is WO Tom O'Daniel, who was copilot that day. CE Gary Boop took the picture. We were in a very nice trench (about a meter deep, on the west side of the perimeter of the LZ) which had been prepared and just previously vacated by NVA troops who had moved to the south side during the assault. |

I found this old pic that Ron Kuhn took of me on March 3rd 71 with my Yashica. If you look close you can see my striped down chopped barrel on my "60". Along with a double sprung feed tray, we figured it was close to 600 RPM. I changed his "60" just before I DEROSED and we only got to fire together once and it scared the hell out of our pilot's. I remember that after we cleared the LZ the AC asked "what the hell did you do to those gun's"? Only drawbacks were a foot long flame out of the barrel, and I had to reload my ammo box every time we got fuel during Lam Son. Glenn |

From my Lam Son 719 Pictures I found this shot I took from the GCA looking across the rwy under construction (still dirt) when some incoming hit at the POL or Rearm, not really sure. I can never seem to remember anything about the perimeter to the east except driving out a dirt road to a waterfall which got ambushed later on. I have a lot of memories of the north and west side, but nothing in the brain bank left about the eastern edge. Anyone? I seem to recall a pretty active Graves Reg for ARVN's, plus B MED, An ARVN hit by a COBRA ( I have a pic of the Cobra after we got it of the truck it landed on, & a Dust-off coming out of a fog bank hitting the ground. The incoming was pretty dependable so I got several shots of it impacting, one of us running across a wide open space |

I took these on Khe Sahn during Lam Son. That tent was ours, built it right next to the GCA and directly over a bunker that we traded a case of pudding to a combat engineer with a backhoe to dig. (Think about how stupid that order was to put a tent up in the middle of Khe Sahn, like the GCA unit wasn't big enough of a target. HIT ME HERE PLEASE). Anyhow, after the attack, this Birddog almost landed on us. Dropped like a rock and did a great imitation of a STOLanding and came to rest right where you see it. |

The crew took an airburst with holes and missing skin right up behind the back seater. They were wired a bit. I mean hair on fir wired, jumping up and down like one would after such a event. However, when my NCOIC, Sgt Piatt, said; "welcome to Khe Sahn"and suggested they push the bird away from us before it got us all killed, the pilot replied; " Ain't no way I am sleeping here, if I flew it here, I can fly it out of here."He never returned our duct tape. Amazingly, he flew off into the sunset. Lucky bastard.
Just before he QSY's on the freq, he did say THANKS! |
