THE AUTOROTATIONS WERE ENTERED FROM 700' AGL, HEADING 040 AND WITH AN IAS OF 60 KNOTS. AT APPROXIMATELY 350' THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT GOT ON THE CONTROLS WITH THE PILOT AND STATED THAT HE WAS GOING TO DEMONSTRATE A PRECISION AUTOROTATION WITH A TOUCHDOWN STAYING AT THE CONTROLS OR TO FOLLOW HIM THROUGH. AS HE STARTED EXPLAINING THE PROCEDURE HE PUT THE AIRCRAFT IN A DECELERATION ATTITUDE AND DECREASED THE AIRSPEED. AFTER THE AIRSPEED HAD FALLEN OFF AND THE DESIRED APPROACH ANGLE WAS GAINED THE INF AND THE DESIRED APPROACH ANGLE WAS GAINED THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT WENT TO A 60 KNOT ATTITUDE TO REGAIN HIS AIRSPEED PRIOR TO FINAL FLARE. DURING THIS MANEUVER THE INSTRUCTOR AND PILOT SAID THE RPM APPEARED LOW BUT THAT THE APPROACH WAS CONTINUED DUE TO THE RPM REMAINING WITHIN THE OPERATING ARCH. DURING THIS MANEUVER THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO BUILD UP AN EXCESSIVE SINK RATE, AT THE FINAL FLARE THE INITIAL PITCH PULL WAS BY THE PILOT BUT DUE TO THE HIGH RATE OF DESCENT THE INSTRUCTOR CONTINUED TO PULL ALL THE REMAINING PITCH IN ORDER TO PREVENT A HARD LANDING. THE INITIAL CONTACT WITH THE GROUND WAS SMOOTH AND THE AIRCRAFT SLID APPROXIMATELY 1 AIRCRAFT LENGTH PRIOR TO STOPPING ALL FORWARD MOTION. AS THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST A PIECE OF METAL WAS SEEN FLYING BY THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT AND A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE REAR OF THE AIRCRAFT. AT THIS TIME THE INSTRUCTOR AND THE PILOT WERE ATTEMPTING TO SHUT THE THROTTLE OFF, THE AIRCRAFT WAS FINALLY SHUT OFF BY THE EMERGENCY FUEL SWITCH BEING PULLED BY THE PILOT.\\
