Accident Summary:
On 3 march 1968 CWO Larry E. Wiler was instructor pilot on a UH-1H helicopter 66-846. After refueling at the fuel pits in Vung Tau, RVN, he asked the tower for take-off instructions and received instructions to hold, which he did, while a Republic of Korea helicopter hovered around to his rear and up on his left side. Due to the close proximity of refueling points and an 18-28 knot crosswind, the Republic of Korea helicopter had difficulties maintaining a steady hovering attitude and drifted toward 66-846 causing the main rotor blades to mesh. At the time of the blade strike, 66-846 was still holding on the ground
