2005 Activities for A/101 Aviation Association, Inc
1. Support the 101st Airborne Division.
ü 44 A/101 members attended the 101 Airborne Association Reunion in Kissimmee Florida in February 2005
ü 18 A/101 members attended the 101 Airborne Association Tampa Reunion August 2005
ü Several of our members become pen pals in support of all the Comanchero enlisted men and all of the single Comancheros officers serving in OIF. This is an ongoing program that will last the fall of 2006.
ü Members Richard Bittle and Chuck Slezak both served as Aviation Governor for the 101 Airborne Division Association.
ü A/101 members raised the funds from our membership and then arranged with The Ringer Glove Company to purchase and ship at a discount 3 dozen mechanic gloves to active duty soldiers to help working on hot aircraft
ü A/101 members donated a Total of $180.00 and the A/101 Avn association matched the $180.00, a sent a check for a total of $360 was sent to help fund the Christmas Hats gifts for deployed 4-101 Avn soldiers.
ü Many A/101 members paid dues to the 101 Airborne Division Association.
ü Assisted in organizing a pen pal support campaign between the kids in two sixth grade classes and the deployed Comancheros of A 4-101 Avn that is an ongoing effort. We also assisted Monument Elementary School in a Christmas CARE package campaign for the deployed Comancheros. The children managed donate enough gifts and goodies to fill 19 large boxes that were sent to the Comanchero troops for Christmas.
2. Promote the social welfare of the community.
ü Several of our members volunteered to work on a UH-1H helicopter owned by the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation which is used in their aircraft shows. This aircraft served time with The Comancheros in VN in 1971 and now is a flying memorial to our unit.
ü Sent volunteers to a work day to help Save The Montagnards People in North Carolina
ü Collected and sent funds from our members for Katrina relief
3. Promote, maintain and develop the A/101 Aviation Association website.
ü Signed contract with Sunshine Technologies to improve the navigation and structure of the association web site.
ü Increased our membership by thirty five members through the web site roster.
ü Added many photos of A/101 activities both past and present. Also added Division and Battalion newsletters and other documentation to the web site.
4. Perpetuate the memory and legacy of A/101Aviation.
ü Produced a Legacy painting and Frame to perpetuate the memory and legacy of A/101Aviation along with 1000 limited edition prints.
ü Donated the original Legacy painting and frame to 4/101 Battalion Headquarters on temporary loan until the new 101st Museum is completed outside Fort Campbell, KY, then the museum will take final possession of the painting and frame. Until such time the painting and frame shall hang in the 4/101 Battalion Headquarters Building at Fort Campbell, KY under contract with the association
ü Laminated and presented A/101 Legacy print #531 to the Comancheros so that they can take it with them on any deployments.
ü A member had duplicates of the original CCN patch made, he sold them to the association at a reduced cost for resale in the association store
ü Several of our members awarded Distinguished Unit Member status from the 4-101 Aviation Regiment, 101st Airborne Division.
ü Gave a presentation at Monument Elementary School on the legacy of A/101 Avn to two sixth grade classes for Veterans Day.
ü Donated an A/101 Aviation Legacy print and a frame to the Fort Rucker Army Museum
ü Donated an A/101 Aviation Legacy print and a frame to the Armed Forces Retirement Home
ü Incorporated the A/101 Aviation Association, Inc, formed a corporate Board of Directors and passed Bylaws for the association.
5. Perpetuate the memory of Veterans and comfort their survivors.
ü Members purchased and donated a flight jacket for Ron Cossey
ü Arranged a visit by the family of a fallen A/101 Avn Veteran to visit Fort Campbell, KY with a guide from A 4/101 Avn Regt that showed them around the Saber airfield and aircraft their father flew. (Ranal Culp’s family)
ü Donated $450 to the Armed Forces Retirement Home hurricane relief and a copy of the A/101 Legacy Painting
ü Awarded Colonel Ted Crozier with Honorary Panel Member status with the A/101 Avn Association
ü Donated a print #091 of the A/101 Legacy Painting to In The Shadow Of The Blade – Arrowhead Films
ü Donated two copies of the A/101 Legacy Painting to Anheuser-Busch, Inc in appreciation of their support.
ü Donated a copy of the A/101 Legacy Painting to the Ringer Glove Company in appreciation of their support.
ü Donated a copy of the A/101 Legacy Painting to the Zonkers Company in appreciation of their support.
ü Sent a floral arrangement for the Billy Colwell funeral
6. Attend Veterans memorial services.
ü Attended, purchased and laid a wreath for the 101st Airborne Aviation at the 101 Monument in Arlington National Cemetery, Memorial Day
ü Several members visited and paid respects at the 4/101 Avn memorial, Ft Campbell, KY
ü Member Jay Tate gave the key note address at the Hickory, NC Veterans Day Services
7. Conduct charitable and educational programs.
ü Hosted a glove fund drive to purchase gloves for active duty aviators
ü Continued to educate by having visitors visit our web site
ü Collected and donated funds from our members for Katrina relief in the amounts of $400.00 and $1603.00
ü Donated $450 to the Armed Forces Retirement Home hurricane relief and a copy of the A/101 Legacy Painting
8. Sponsor social and relational activities for A/101 Aviation Members.
ü Hosted a financially successful hospitality suite at Kissimmee February 2005
ü Hosted a 40th reunion in Houston for the Winged Warriors
